Gestalt Letters

Closure: I used the letter C and rotated and flipped them and connected them to make a clover like shape. I left the bottom part empty because the definition of closure states that the object is incomplete and the space is not completely enclosed. Continuity: I used the letters O because they are simple and make the most sense in this category without looking odd like other letters. You can see that the size of the font changes from large and gradually becomes smaller. This is to point your mind towards the O's which show continuity because they are continuously spreading. This will allow your eyes to move from one direction to another. Kind of like Point A to Point B.  Figure Ground: I used the letter I to make two L's inside of it. You can see that the I's start from the top then go down and go to the left. The empty space is supposed to represent the letter L. The serifs add extra detail to the image so it doesn't look like a straight boring line. They also look li...

1st Image: Gill Sans MT Condensed 2nd Image: Minion Pro 3rd Image: Garamond     I made 3 pages with 3 different type faces. The first one was  Gill Sans MT Condensed. The second was Minion Pro. And the third was Garamond. I used the words Surreal, Bizarre, Melodramatic, Strange, Unreal, and Comical. These are all synonyms of each other.  I used a blue rectangle to determine the size of each space between each word so they would all be equal length. My reaction to InDesign is that it is a well designed program with endless amounts of features you can test and play around with. Digital type design is fun because you can mess with different fonts and sizes.

3 Letters + Word

The letters I picked were a Sans Serif "W", a Slab Serif "N" and a Old Style "B". There is an apex between the two arms of the W in the middle. The N has a serif and a shoulder. The B has a stem and a bowl. I made sure the letter W touched the right side of the box and the letter N touched the left side of the box. I know that I could've done a lot better filling in the letters with sharpie but for the most part, I think it came out decent. This project taught me that you can make art out of anything even if it's 3 random letters and a random word that do not correlate to each other at all.

I picked letters that were mostly straight. They were more simple but looked clean. I used a combination of an Old Style "K", a Transitional "L", and a Slab Serif "X". The base of the L is a bracket. There is one leg in the letter K. The type anatomy term for the letter X was just “x-height”. The part above the leg of the K is called the arm. It is a short stroke off the stem of the letter form. Between the arm and leg of the K lies the crotch. Finally, the last part of the "K" is the stem. The stem is a vertical stroke in a character.   This is the interior space where the two strokes meet. I situated these letters inside the framal reference by making each letter touch one side of the box. The letter is teaching me that you can improvise and make something look like art even if it is something simple like 3 letters. You can use your imagination and be creative to make anything you want. I think the most challenging part of this assignment...
