3 Letters + Word

Image
The letters I picked were a Sans Serif "W", a Slab Serif "N" and a Old Style "B". There is an apex between the two arms of the W in the middle. The N has a serif and a shoulder. The B has a stem and a bowl. I made sure the letter W touched the right side of the box and the letter N touched the left side of the box. I know that I could've done a lot better filling in the letters with sharpie but for the most part, I think it came out decent. This project taught me that you can make art out of anything even if it's 3 random letters and a random word that do not correlate to each other at all.

3 letters

I picked letters that were mostly straight. They were more simple but looked clean. I used a combination of an Old Style "K", a Transitional "L", and a Slab Serif "X". The base of the L is a bracket. There is one leg in the letter K. The type anatomy term for the letter X was just “x-height”. The part above the leg of the K is called the arm. It is a short stroke off the stem of the letter form. Between the arm and leg of the K lies the crotch. Finally, the last part of the "K" is the stem. The stem is a vertical stroke in a character.   This is the interior space where the two strokes meet. I situated these letters inside the framal reference by making each letter touch one side of the box. The letter is teaching me that you can improvise and make something look like art even if it is something simple like 3 letters. You can use your imagination and be creative to make anything you want. I think the most challenging part of this assignment...
